Veneers are essentially a small covering (or shell) bonded to the front of any cracked, chipped or damaged part of your tooth. One of the biggest benefits to having a veneer is that it provides a sturdy and natural looking covering to your damaged teeth that restores them to their previous pristine condition. After we fit your dental veneers you will have to look after them to make sure they last and your teeth stay protected for a long time. To make sure your veneers stay in top condition just lightly brush them at least twice a day as part of your normal oral hygiene routine. Beyond maintaining your veneers it is important to maintain a good oral hygiene regime to prevent gum disease.
Be careful how hard you press the brush as rubbing too hard against the veneer could dislodge it or damage it over time, so keep those strokes light. If you regularly use floss we recommend that you delicately run it around your tooth as you could accidentally catch it on the porcelain covering or damage it. Basically, just try to be as careful as you can when flossing and you should be fine.
We also recommend that you avoid using mouthwash for a few days after your fitting as the chemicals in some brands can damage your new covering or dissolve the adhesive that's used to hold it in place.
