How can our dentist help you manage your anxiety?

dental-anxiety

When it comes to looking at the anxiety that revolves around medical procedures, it is fair to say that dental treatments and even appointments are at the top of the list. After all, there are very few people who are scared of visiting their opticians!

Sadly, there are many reasons for dental anxiety, which can include poor exposure to dental teams at a young age or even having treatments performed by a dental team who were less than courteous or compassionate. This can have lifelong implications and can lead to many people developing dental issues that could have been avoided and may then require more invasive treatments to treat.

Our team at Spa Dental Sydney are always happy to meet with and treat patients who are phobic about seeing our dentist Sydney. We will always work with you to take the treatment at a pace that you are comfortable with. We can also provide you with many options to help you manage your dental anxiety while you are with us, so you do not have to be feeling anxious or stressed whilst in the dental chair.

What are some of the methods that our dentist Sydney can offer to help you manage your dental anxiety? Read on to find out!

Talking!

For people who have mild anxiety when attending the dentist Sydney, our team can simply offer you the chance to talk openly about the problems that you have. This can involve a non-clinical appointment with us to get to know our team before you actually undertake the check-up. For many people, simply seeing that our team are actually humans can be enough to ease their concerns. Also, it’s important to note that we do not judge people who have a fear of dental teams and will always aim to pair you with a member of our team who we feel is best suited for you when you call us.

Distractions

Many people find that it is the sound of the dental drill that sets them off. And if this is the case, our team would be more than happy for you to have a pair of headphones on whilst you are in the dental chair, listening to music or doing a guided meditation.

Nitrous oxide

Next on the list comes nitrous oxide, which is not as commonly used as it used to be, but is also known as laughing gas. This puts you into a semi-conscious state whilst wearing a mask and reduces any potential discomfort you may feel from any procedures we may perform. Once the mask is off, you will be able to go about your day as normal and will have no memory of the procedure.

Sedation

If you want a slightly more removed experience in the dental chair, our team can offer this to you in the form of intravenous sedation. This is administered via a needle into your arm, and much like nitrous oxide, it puts you into a semi-conscious state. However, you will need to have somebody that you know and trust to escort you home afterwards, and you should not operate heavy machinery 24 hours after having intravenous sedation.

Anaesthesia

For those who do not even want to be awake whilst they have dental treatments, our team is happy to offer you anaesthesia. But this will need to be offered at a clinic, usually at a hospital, so that there is an anaesthetist on hand to oversee the treatment.
