New to using Invisalign? Need some help with managing the aligner?

Our team at Spa Dental can help! We have assisted many patients who have used these famous invisible braces Sydney and are eager to help you too!

Here, our team provides some guidance on how to cope with invisible braces Sydney during those first few weeks.

Keep track

When you use invisible braces Sydney, one of the first things you will need to do is get used to timing yourself.

In order for these aligners to work, they need to be kept in your mouth for a minimum of 22 hours per day, or else the realignment can slow and your teeth may even revert to their previous positions.

Clean the aligners

Yes, Invisalign aligners are designed to be as visually discreet as possible, but they still need cleaning!

This is to ensure that they do not become discoloured and of course, to keep your teeth and gums in good condition. Excess food debris and plaque on the aligners can increase the chance of you developing cavities or gum disease, so we will often advise our patients who are using this aligner to clean them a minimum of twice a day. To remove stubborn debris, you can use a toothbrush and cold water. Never use hot water to clean your aligners, as this can cause them to warp out of shape.

Take pain relief

You may have read claims in online blogs or websites that when you begin using Invisalign, there will not be any discomfort.

While we can attest that many of our patients have found these aligners more comfortable than expected, they are still aligners and are designed to straighten your teeth. Therefore, when you switch between aligners, there will be some pressure and discomfort applied to your teeth, which may need pain relief.

If you need advice on which pain relief may be best for you, please talk to our team.

Keep them safe!

When you are given Invisalign aligners, you will also be supplied with a carry box to place them in when you are out and about; please use it!

When it comes to Invisalign, many patients presume that when the aligners aren’t in their mouths, they can simply be placed into a pocket or bag and this will keep them safe. However, many aligners have been damaged and warped with this logic, leading to patients having to delay treatment and spend money to have them replaced.

The carry case that comes with Invisalign is designed specifically to keep the aligners safe and ensure that they hold their shape. So, to save yourself some money and stress, we advise you to use them!

Attend appointments!

As obvious as it may sound in relation to wearing any kind of orthodontic tool, one of the key things to remember is that you need to attend check-ups with our team.

Even though Invisalign comes with an app that allows you to send selfies to us once a week, we will still need to see you every 6-8 weeks for general check-ups. This will help us to ensure that the aligners are working correctly and that there are no other issues that could lead to problems, such as decay or gum disease.
